Initially, the name of the bank was Malabar District Co-operative Bank Limited, registered under section 9 of Act II of 1912 (India). Initially, the bank’s area of operation was extended to the entire erstwhile Malabar district of Madras State.
Kozhikode District Co-Operative Bank Limited, formerly known as Malabar Co-op Central Bank Limited, – MCC Bank, was registered and started functioning on 03.12.1917.
The name of the bank was changed to Malabar Co-operative Central Bank Limited in the year 1958.
With the reorganization of the Indian states, the state of Kerala came into existence in 1956 by merging Travancore, Cochin, Malabar and Kasaragod taluks in South Canara. At the time of formation of the state of Kerala there was only one co-operative central bank. The membership of the bank was transferred from Madras State Co-op Bank to Kerala State Co-op Bank.
After the formation of the state of Kerala, Malabar district was divided into three revenue districts, Kozhikode, Kannur and Palakkad. Separate Central Co-operative Banks were formed for these districts with effect from 01.07.1963. The bank was again divided into three and the area of operation of the Malabar Co-operative Central Bank has been restricted to the entire area of Kozhikode revenue district. This was followed by Malappuram and Wayanad revenue districts and the respective district cooperative banks. Thus the old Malabar district was divided into five revenue districts and separate district cooperative banks were formed for the newly formed districts, thus restricting the area of operation of the bank to the entire area of Kozhikode revenue district comprising Kozhikode was included. , Koylandi and Vatakara taluks.
In 1985 the bye-laws of the bank were amended and the name of Malabar Co-operative Central Bank Limited was changed to Kozhikode District Co-operative Bank Limited, No. F-1635.
