Industrial Bank of Korea was established in 1961 as an industrial bank headquartered in Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea. The bank is owned by the government of the Republic of Korea (South Korea). From 2013 to 2016, Kwon Seon-joo was its CEO, thus becoming South Korea’s first female bank CEO.
The Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK) lends to small and medium-sized enterprises. The bank leads South Korea in small business loans, representing the bulk of its loan portfolio. Other offerings include deposit accounts, credit cards and asset management services. IBK operates over 560 branches across the country and in approximately 20 countries in Asia (including China and India), the UK and the US. The Korean government controls about 76% of IBK, which was established in 1961. In 2013, the government scrapped plans to fully privatize the bank.
